Father’s Day Weekend

Happy Father’s Day (a day late)! The kids spent the weekend with us, and we actually managed to keep Gary’s presents a secret and surprise him. I showed the kids their dad’s present on Saturday, and they were instantly gripped with the overwhelming and insurmountable need to give him the presents right now, so he got his presents a bit early. After hugging and kissing everyone, Gary looked at me and joked, “Gee, I was really hoping for socks.”

(I will file that little comment away and present him with a huge bag of socks next year just for kicks.)

As usual, watching the kids and Gary together provided non-stop comic relief all weekend. They finished reading Charlotte’s Web together weeks ago, but Sunflower still totes that book around everywhere she goes, holding it open on her lap and practically reciting the book from memory, pretending to read to us, the cats, her dolls, anyone or anything that will sit still long enough to listen.

Gary suggested to her that they find a new book to read now, and he reminded her that we have a copy of Black Beauty on the book shelf.

Sunflower gave him an odd stare, then asked, “Black Booty?”

We quickly corrected her that the book is about a horse, and not…well…something else altogether.
