As you can tell by the frequency of “happy birthday” postings lately, the months of October through December are loaded with one birthday after another. Today’s birthday belongs to the one and only Gary 🙂
He had a fit when he thought he overheard me and the kids surreptitiously plotting a birthday gift for him. (For the record, the kids and I have never confirmed nor denied this allegation. We plead the fifth.) Gary tells us every year that he doesn’t want any presents, and all he wants is a hug and kiss from each of us. From anyone else, I would think it was grandstanding; from Gary, I truly believe it.
I certainly have a hug and kiss set aside for him, but I have more than that. I have the promise that I will always be there for him, with him, beside him. I have a love in my heart I don’t express to him nearly enough. I have dreams, hopes, plans I want to share with him, and only him.
We have had our struggles, and I’m sure there will be more. At the end of the day, though, we have each other, and we are a hell of a team when we work together.
Happy birthday, Gary!
