There are not enough treats in this world to thank you for being a patient, sweet kitty this weekend (and many others) as Dove showed you exuberant love, 3-year-old style.
Many cats would express their discomfort with a growl or a hiss as their guts are squished by a well-meant but clumsily-delivered hug, or when they are abruptly awakened by excited cries of “Hi Rosie!” during a luxurious cat nap. But not you: no, you simply cut your eyes pleadingly over to me or to Gary, whoever is the closest lifeline, to swiftly rescue you.
You have endless patience with Dove’s boundless fascination with your every move, from the way you eat to how you drink your water to the way you curl up tight to take a power nap…your every move is documented, commented upon, and pointed out loudly, and your tail, the most intriguing part of you, is rarely left untouched.
Through all of this, you have bestowed upon Dove a gentle nudge on her forehead, which sends her sailing through the house, shrieking loudly to let me know that you gave her “kisses”, an honor apparently so high that it must be immediately announced to all within hearing distance as loudly as possible. You let her hug you, pet you backwards until I remind her to pet down your back, and oblige her by swatting at every string she dangles for your playing enjoyment.
Your gentleness, patience, and softness do not go unnoticed…especially by Dove. There are worse things than being loved by a child, eh?
