You Look Like Mama

Last night, I watched my Tampa Bay Lightning shuffle around with the Florida Panthers in the slowest, most boring hockey game ever, with my Lightning characteristically taking the losing end.  After one of many failed scoring attempts on the part of the Lightning, I made a scowling, angry face and lifted my fist like I was going to pound the arm of the couch.

Instantly, one of the kids said, “You look like Mama when you do that,” adding an arm cocked back in backhand position to complete the imitation.

How very telling, and powerful, and sad, and deeply disturbing, that such an angry and potentially violent expression and gesture automatically reminded the children of Mommy Dearest.

About TheSmirkingCat

I am endlessly trying to make sense of a world that has completely and unapologetically lost its mind.

    Those poor kids:(

I have become very good at not showing any facial expression or reaction at some of the most disturbing things that get said or repeated. I can only imagine what life in their other home is like.

  3. Very sad….they are lucky to have you.

Don't be shy! Tell me how great I am. Or not. Share your feelings with the group.
