You didn’t think I’d miss a blog post after the Tampa Bay Lightning’s playoff game last night, did you? I ended up watching part of the game while running on a treadmill at my gym, and I learned one crucial thing: I simply cannot exercise the self-restraint required to watch hockey in public. Let’s just say that the man on the treadmill beside me decided to slowly, cautiously back away and retreat to a treadmill as far away from me as he could find.
The Lightning took on the Montreal Canadiens last night in the first game of the playoff round. I only got to watch the first period and followed the rest of the game on the app after I left the gym, but from what I saw, poor Lindback (the goalie) got one hell of a workout. At one point, he had to make a save when the puck bounced off the leg of another Lightning player who was standing directly in his path of vision. It’s a miracle the Canadiens didn’t score on that one.
The game ended up in overtime, and my heart broke when the Canadiens scored, taking a 5-4 victory over my Lightning. But the Lightning played hard, so I won’t make my usual comments about how much they suck. I give them credit for a hard-fought game.
The Lightning play again Friday night. Maybe I should post a warning at my gym. I have a date with a treadmill and a TV!
